Republicans raise $804M in two months for Georgia runoffs: WinRed

With the Georgia runoff elections a month away, Republicans raised over $800 million in two months through their signature online fundraising site, WinRed, the group said.

GOP candidates and committees raised $804 million in the first two months of the fourth quarter of 2020, according to numbers shared with the Washington Examiner by WinRed. In November, WinRed reported that it managed to raise $374 million through over 7 million donations. The average donation made was $48.62.

October was an even stronger month, with Republicans raising $430 million from over 9 million donations — the average contribution for that month was $46.40, WinRed said.

WinRed was created to counter the Democratic online donation platform ActBlue, which helped shatter fundraising records in some Senate campaigns ahead of 2020’s general election.

In its first 16 months, WinRed reported it raised more than $1.9 billion in total. The platform is supported by a united front of several GOP party committees and President Trump’s reelection campaign.

Every state GOP party uses the platform, as well as 90% of House and Senate members and over 1,300 campaigns that are raising money through WinRed.

The boost in fundraising should help Republicans ahead of the Georgia runoff elections, which will determine which party will take control of the Senate. Republicans and Democrats have been scrambling to fundraise and aggressively campaign on behalf of their candidates in Georgia for the Jan. 5 runoffs.

Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler will face Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in closely contested races.

If Republicans lose both contests, the chamber would be split 50-50, with Democrats and the two independents who caucus with them having the advantage of a tie-breaker in Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Democrats will retain control of the House next term but by a slimmer margin.
