Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley said people who are calling President Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey “Nixonian” need to get over it.
“My message is to suck it up and move on,” Grassley said Wednesday morning.

Trump fired Comey Tuesday evening and immediately drew comparisons to former President Richard Nixon’s decision to fire a special investigator who was looking into the Watergate scandal. That firing led to the resignation of Nixon’s attorney general and deputy attorney general in what is referred to as the Saturday Night Massacre.
Grassley said Trump was right to fire Comey.
“The FBI director reports to and is under the direction of the deputy attorney general. That’s [Rod] Rosenstein. He’s well respected because he’s been under both Republican and Democratic administrations, he was just approved by the Senate 94-6,” Grassley said.
“He said Comey being head hurts the confidence of the public in the FBI and he could be replaced. Now, the president wouldn’t have to take the advice of Rosenstein but a president ought to have a good reason for not taking it.”
