Metro’s general manager turned down the chance to be the next head of the New York City’s subway system, according to spokesman Dan Stessel of the D.C. transit agency. Sarles was approached about the position being vacated by Jay Walder and “declined,” Stessel said. Sarles came to Metro after running N.J. Transit, the sister system that feeds thousands of commuters into New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority each day.
