Mainstreet Meets the Beltway: Veterans Day in Paris

Every week the Washington Examiner and SiriusXM Radio bring you Mainstreet Meets the Beltway. On this Veterans Day edition, Salena Zito is off, and Capri Cafaro sits in the host seat. Cafaro is a former state senator in Ohio, and a current resident at the American University School of Public Affairs.

Joining Capri are two colleagues from American University, and a Fox News host. Tony Hollinger is director of initiatives for student engagement & diversity at American University and a Marine Corps veteran. While Hollinger says he didn’t always know the military was the path he would choose, he says that his time in the Marines “definitely impacted [his] professional outlook and…professional success.” He goes on to say that in the armed services he learned leadership “the practical way, by leading,” and how to get a group of people to accomplish people than they ever could on their own.

Capri’s second guest is Dr. Garret Martin from the American University School of International Service. He is an expert on transatlantic relations, security issues, and foreign policy. Martin gives insight into the observation of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One in France. Capri notes that usually this is an occasion dedicated to history and pageantry, however in our current global climate, having so many world leaders in one place could lead to diplomacy taking the spotlight. Dr. Martin gives his experienced insight into the situation in France.

Last but not least, Host of Fox News’ “Outnumbered Overtime,” Harris Faulkner, comes on to thank all military members for their service in honor of Veterans Day. She details her experience growing up military and why the holiday means so much to her. Capri and Harris discuss how it is much more than just the time on the battlefield, but how military lessons can apply to every day life.
