AOC presses Michael Cohen for details on Trump’s finances

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Wednesday grilled Michael Cohen about President Trump’s finances and was told by Cohen that Trump was involved in an effort to inflate the value of his assets.

Ocasio-Cortez used her time at the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to press Cohen on whether Trump ever inflated his assets to an insurance company, particularly the Trump Golf Links property in Bronx, New York City, which is located in her congressional district.

“To your knowledge, did the president ever provide inflated assets to an insurance company?” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“Yes,” Cohen responded.

When asked who else would know about that practice, Cohen replied, “Allen Weisselberg, Ron Lieberman, and Matthew Calamari.”

Ocasio-Cortez, a freshman, asked where the panel could find evidence to support his claims and whether it would be helpful to compare Trump’s financial statements and tax returns.

“Yes, and you’d find it at the Trump Org,” Cohen said.

Ocasio-Cortez also sought details about the “treasure trove” of documents regarding the National Enquirer and its efforts to “catch and kill” stories to help avoid bad publicity for Trump.
