Rep. Elizabeth Esty, D-Conn., said Friday that she will not resign after it was revealed she kept on an aide for several months despite having learned of abuse allegations against him, according to a report.
“For those who have asked, I want to be clear that I am not resigning,” Esty said in a statement to CNN. “I have important work to do in Congress including building on the lessons of this horrible series of events.”
The congresswoman signed a nondisclosure agreement with Tony Baker, her former chief of staff, after learning of allegations against him saying he threatened and physically assaulted another aide of hers, CNN reports.
Esty, who was an outspoken supporter of the #MeToo movement, kept Baker for three months after learning of the allegations and reportedly penned a letter of reference for him.
According to affidavits referenced by the Washington Post, Baker called the fellow aide 50 times in May or 2016 and left her a voicemail threatening to murder her.
