Trump on failed ‘skinny’ repeal vote: ‘3 Republicans and 48 Democrats let American people down’

President Trump lashed out at the senators who voted against repealing Obamacare early Friday morning, accusing them of letting the American people down and once again promising to let the law implode.

The tweet came around an hour after the Senate voted down an amendment for a “skinny” repeal of Obamacare by a 51-49 margin. Three Republicans voted against the measure: Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine. All Democrats and independents voted against it too.

“Three Republicans and 48 Democrats let American people down,” the president tweeted. “As I said from the beginning, let Obamacare implode, then deal. Watch!”

Trump has said repeatedly after setbacks in the healthcare debate that he would let the law implode. He has said that this approach would help bring Democrats to the negotiating table.
