Cuccinelli takes jabs at Arlington County Board

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli on Monday released a scathing critique of Arlington’s “legal thuggery” in its case against the I-95/395 HOT lanes project, even though the county dropped the lawsuit last week.

In a statement, Cuccinelli said the county’s “egregiously frivolous lawsuit” cost county taxpayers about $2 million while residents continue to sit in traffic on congested roads such as Interstate 395.

The county dropped the lawsuit last week after Virginia Department of Transportation officials decided to abandon plans to build the High Occupancy Toll lanes on I-395 in Arlington and move forward with the rest of the project.

However, Cuccinelli still took the time to bash the Arlington County Board for its legal tactics, which included naming several federal and state transportation officials in their personal capacities.

“That is dirty, and I am confident that most Arlingtonians recognize the legal thuggery that has gone on in this case,” Cuccinelli said. “Improving Northern Virginia’s regional transportation improves Arlington’s transportation, too. For now, however, the latter may be on hold.”
