Apple is never in the doldrums when it comes to product development and the rumors surrounding their much sought-after products don’t stop either.
In the wake of the iPad 2 March release, the media has began speculating about a June debut of a fifth-generation iPhone, following a confident-sounding article posted on ETNews, a South Korean news site, Apr. 1. The article said the debut is likely to take place at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, held June 6-10 in San Francisco.
So far, Apple has made no official announcement regarding an iPhone 5 release and the WWDC’s promotional image only lends credence to previewing updates for Mac’s OS X software and Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS after a few updates rolled out in March with the iPad 2 release.
But, this doesn’t mean Steve Jobs won’t pull a fast one. Remember the swift announcement about the iPad 2? Some members of the press received email alerts about the event just a week and a half prior to the unveiling. There was also speculation about whether or not Jobs would show on account of his cancer prognosis. He did.
It seems, to me, that Apple rumors generally actualize, but PCMag.com raises some good questions that make the alleged iPhone 5 launch seem unlikely. They say:
Is it likely that South Korea will get a new version of the iPhone just a few months after Apple started selling the iPhone 4 in that country? And with the iPhone 4 still selling briskly and possible roadblocks in Apple’s ability as of yet to integrate 4G technology into its new handset to its liking, does it make sense for the company to rush the iPhone 5 to market?
The same article does point out that a summer debut would follow Apple’s tighter-release pattern that has been occurring in recent years. But, no matter the pattern, rumors remain that Apple may delay a launch until they can get the iPhone 5 working properly with the new LTE 4G components, which is the new network standard that has been adopted by Verizon and will be rolled out by AT&T later this summer.
