Hillary Clinton said white nationalists have found their modern-day rallying cry, and they got it from the person who defeated her in the 2016 presidential election.
“The white nationalists certainly think MAGA is a white nationalist slogan,” Clinton tweeted Tuesday, sharing a link to a Huffington Post article.
The piece in the left-leaning HuffPost was titled, “How Far-Right Extremists Abroad Have Adopted Trump’s Symbols As Their Own.”

The featured image in the article shows a young, white man in a red hat bearing Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
“Searching for MAGA symbolism is one of the easiest ways to notice online extremists and members of hate groups … researchers have found — a game of ‘Where’s Waldo?’ for racists,” the article reads.
Democrats and some media pundits have accused Trump of using racist dog whistles and condemned him for failing to offer more full-throated condemnation of white nationalists or neo-Nazis.
Trump set off a media firestorm when he declared that there were bad people “on many sides” of the racially charged clash in Charlottesville, Va., in 2018.
Last month, 50 people were killed in a shooting at a mosque in New Zealand, and the suspected gunman wrote a manifesto prior to the attack in which he praised Trump as a “symbol of renewed white identity.” In reacting to the attack, Trump said he doesn’t think white nationalism is becoming a burgeoning threat around the world.
In contrast, last week FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress there is a “persistent, pervasive threat” posed by white supremacist violence.
