Texas Border Patrol arrests over 100 people crammed in ‘stash house’

Laredo, Texas, Border Patrol authorities arrested over 100 people on Thursday after agents stormed a cramped “stash house.”

The individuals were later found to be migrants residing in the United States illegally from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Nicaragua. The home was under guard by smugglers.

All were taken into custody following the joint operation between Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Laredo Police Department.

Carl Landrum, deputy chief patrol agent of the Laredo sector, called the incident a “harsh reality” in response to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection video that showed numerous migrants being detained and searched by law enforcement. CBP described the house as “inhumane.”

“The smuggling and housing of large groups of individuals in stash houses has not been deterred by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Border Patrol said in a statement. “Stash house incidents such as this pose a threat not only to the people exploited by human smuggling but also to the people and safety of our Nation.”
