Party down with Jerry Weast

It’s Jerry Weast’s party, and you can cry if you want to — call it allergies, we won’t tell.

The long-time superintendent of Montgomery County Schools is retiring in June after 12 years, and he’s being honored with a big party May 20, hosted by the school board, the teachers’ union, PTA, and area business groups.

Tickets are $38 for buffet barbecue and refreshments at Smoky Glen Farm in Gaithersburg. Also, student entertainment! And a cash bar! (But no pets — they can’t handle their booze.)

The website, which went out to school staff Friday, also invites Weast fans to donate to “The Jerry Weast Book Project,” to add books to the county’s 131 elementary schools. Weast detractors tell The Examiner that school librarians are “furious” that he’s doing a book drive as their positions are being cut.

No matter your side of the fence, the website is certainly an experience. Open a new tab. Go to your URL bar. Type in “weastlegacy.com.” Enjoy.
