Incoming White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci hit back against accusations of sexism Sunday, saying comments he made about “hair and makeup” during a morning show were taken out of context.
“For the record, I was referring to my hair and make up and the fact that I like the make up artist,” Scaramucci tweeted. “Need all the help I can get! #humor.”
Earlier, during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Scaramucci mentioned the White House hair and makeup person that had prepared him and new press secretary Sarah Sanders for his first highly-anticipated press briefing.
Speaking directly to Sanders rather than host Jake Tapper, Scaramucci said he “loved the hair and makeup person that we had on Friday, so I’d like to continue to use the hair and makeup person.”
Some on social media and liberal outlets like ThinkProgress questioned whether Scaramucci was commenting on Sanders’ physical appearance rather than her job performance, prompting his response.
