Ivanka Trump filled in for her father at least two times on Saturday as she sat among world leaders while the president met one-on-one with various leaders during the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.
Journalists quickly reacted to the president’s daughter being chosen as a fill-in, many questioning why an experienced Cabinet member wasn’t representing the U.S. at the table of leaders.
Alongside reporters, former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul also expressed shock, calling the act itself “strange.”

Svetlana Lukash, the Russian sherpa of the summit who originally pointed out the first daughter’s placeholding for the president, has since deleted the photo.
