The VA’s culture of malfeasance and corruption resulted in a new leader, new legislation, and new money. Still, as Jordain Carney of National Journal reports:
The top watchdog for the Veterans Affairs Department said Tuesday that it appears that the majority of the 93 VA facilities now under investigation were intentionally manipulating data, which could lead to a fresh round of drama for the embattled agency.
This agency’s mission is supported almost universally as opposed to, say, that of the Department of Education. Failures of the magnitude of those at the VA weaken and discredit the arguments for big government. And, as Bryant Jordan at Military.com reports, there are ongoing:
… investigations into 93 [VA] sites, focusing on whether mangers ordered schedulers to falsify the wait times or to obstruct investigations. The investigations are ongoing, in coordinating with the Justice Department and the FBI, Griffin told the Senators on Tuesday. On Monday, the VA said there are more than 100 investigations underway.
The results of these investigations will, almost certainly, buttress the case for doing things a different way. One that empowers vets, not bureaucrats.
