Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton said Thursday that the EgyptAir crash shines “a very bright light” on the threat of terrorism.
“It does appear to be an act of terrorism, exactly how, of course, the investigation will have to determine,” Clinton told CNN’s Chris Cuomo during an interview in her hometown of Park Ridge, Illinois. “But this once again shines a very bright light on the threats that we face from organized terror groups.”
She added that this incident “reinforces the need for American leadership” as “the world depends on air travel. We can’t allow it to be interrupted or people be intimidated and to continue to take the fight, although it needs to be even more intensified against ISIS from where it is running its operations in Syria and Iraq. So we have to really go along with the kind of plan that I have been outlining for months.”
If the incident does turn out to be an act of terror, Clinton stated that her “biggest concern” is what happens in Europe, and she said she would intensify cooperation with the European nations going forward.
The former secretary of state’s plan to combat terrorism involves defeating the Islamic State using air power and also by equipping and training and supporting local fighters.
