El Paso shooting suspect admits to targeting Mexicans

The man accused of killing over 20 people when he opened fire at an El Paso, Texas, Walmart admitted to the police that he was targeting “Mexicans.”

Before Patrick Crusius began his rampage, the 21-year-old posted an anti-immigrant manifesto online warning of a “Hispanic invasion of Texas.” 22 people were killed in the attack, and approximately another two dozen were injured.

El Paso Detective Adrian Garcia said in an arrest warrant affidavit that Crusius admitted that he was the shooter when he was apprehended, according to the Washington Post. Garcia also said that the shooter waived his Miranda rights and agreed to speak to detectives. He told them that he was targeting Mexicans.

The shooting in El Paso took place about 12 hours before another mass shooting that occurred in Dayton, Ohio. The Dayton shooting left nine people dead.

There have been renewed calls for gun control legislation following the two mass shootings. President Trump has backed stronger background check laws and “red-flag” legislation.
