American Airlines will soon resume snack and alcohol services for select flights after a two-year pause during the pandemic.
Passengers flying coach on domestic and short destination flights will be able to purchase “alcohol and light snacks” again starting April 18, a spokeswoman for the airline told the Washington Examiner.
“Customers traveling on flights over 250 miles will be offered beer, wine, and spirits,” the spokeswoman said.

The airline, along with several others, announced starting in 2020 that the sale of food and alcohol on flights would be paused amid health concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. Several other airlines, such as United Airlines and Southwest Airlines, have since announced a return to serving hard alcohol on select flights.
For American Airlines customers, beer and wine sold on the select flights will be priced at $8, while hard liquors such as rum, gin, whiskey, or vodka will be priced at $9, according to the company’s spokeswoman. Nonalcoholic beverages such as water, tea, and soda, as well as snacks such as Biscoff cookies or pretzels, will be handed out on a complimentary basis.
Additional snacks such as chips or almonds will be available for purchase for “customers on flights over 1,500 miles,” or roughly “3.5 hours or more,” the spokeswoman said.
“We will begin to phase in new menu items throughout the year,” the spokeswoman added. “Our customers have expressed that having these options onboard is important to their experience with us. Later this year, we plan to introduce touchless ordering for customers.”

American Airlines announced in February a plan to resume hot meal service to first-class passengers on select flights, according to Travel Weekly.
“In February, American began introducing its new domestic first-class dining menu featuring class customer favorites like mixed nuts, charcuterie, and short rib in addition to new healthy food choices like grain bowls, heart-healthy entree salads, accompanied with an appetizer,” the spokeswoman confirmed, adding that on long-haul international and transcontinental flights, passengers had been able to enjoy “coursed meal service” in the fall.
