Trump, Sessions, other politicians take in solar eclipse

Politicians around the country stopped Monday afternoon to watch the solar eclipse, joining millions of Americans who gathered to see the first total solar eclipse since February 1979.

In Washington, President Trump, first lady Melania Trump, and their son, Barron, gathered on the Truman Balcony at the White House to watch.

They were joined by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump.

In Washington, 82 percent of the sun was blocked by the moon at around 2:42 p.m. Other parts of the country experienced totality.

The next total solar eclipse will be April 8, 2024.
