DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky Derby weekend is full of parties and events in the Louisville area, but for those who want to celebrate in a nature setting, a state park 160 miles west of the action has an option.
Pennyrile Forest State Park in Dawson Springs is offering a special Derby Weekend Package May 3-5 that costs just $199 plus tax for two people.
There will be buffets and a ladies luncheon as well as music and dancing. Guests will watch the race on television.
The park offers an 18-hole golf course, hiking, trails, fishing, basketball and tennis.
The park’s 24-room Pennyrile Lodge overlooks Pennyrile Lake, and there are also 12 cottages available.
