PACIFICA – A San Francisco man who fell to his death from a Pacifica cliff is being remembered as a pioneer in the movement for gay Asian visibility.
The body of Jeffrey Alan Sead, 53, was found at 3 p.m. Wednesday north of Rockaway Beach. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the 500-foot fall. There were no initial signs of foul play, according to Pacifica police Chief Jim Saunders.
Edward Lee, a board member for the Gay Asian Pacific Alliance, said Sead served as organization co-chair and board member for several years during the 1990s, and was once named the alliance’s “man of the year” for his extraordinary dedication. Sead was one of the main organizers who helped the alliance enter the Chinese New Year Parade. He also served as the group’s liaison to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. He was an artistic, creative man who decorated the floats and organized the costumes, according to friends.
Sead served as a mentor to Kevin Jim when Jim joined the alliance in 2000, shortly after coming out as a gay man.
“He was like my big brother,” Jim said. “He was a role model, giving people advice on how to handle decisions and giving them support.”
Sead, a human-resources professional who grew up in San Francisco, was found two days after telling his roommate in the Sunset district he was going for a walk, Jim said.
