All is calm after elementary school gun scare

When a loaded 9 mm handgun fell out of the pants of a first-grader at Randallstown Elementary School Monday, principal Marcel Hall said swift action on the part of school officials kept an isolated incident from possibly becoming something more dramatic.

“A teacher informed us, the student was bought to my office, and we handled it from there,” Hall said. “It was all taken care of in my office.”

Hall sent out an e-mail after the incident that assured parents the school was safe and that the incident was properly handled.

Baltimore County police said the student brought two handguns to school ? a 9 mm Kahr and a Glock .40 caliber ? after a visit to an uncle?s house in Baltimore City over the weekend. The 9 mm gun was discovered by a teacher after it fell out of the boy?s pants. The other gun was found in his book bag. Both guns had rounds in their chambers, police said.

The boy was released into the custody of his parents Monday, and police said they believe there was no malicious intent. No criminal charges were filed.

Hall said the 7-year-old was a good student.

“Everyone comes down [to my office] once in a while,” Hall said. “But he has never been sent to see me.”
