A city official confirms that late-term abortion provider Dr. George Tiller has been shot dead at a Wichita church where he attended.
The City Hall source spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak about the case.
Police have not confirmed whether the victim was Tiller, saying only that a “high-profile individual in the community” was gunned down during services at Reformation Lutheran Church.
Police spokesman Gordon Bassham told The Associated Press that a 67-year-old man was shot at 10:03 a.m. Sunday.
The clinic run by Tiller, 67, has repeatedly been the site of protests for about two decades.
Capt. Brent Allred said police were looking for a gunman who fled in a 1993 light blue Ford Taurus registered in Merriam.
