EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Eugene City Council has agreed to sell a nearly two-acre downtown plot to a credit union. Part of the site has been used as a garden to produce fruit and vegetables for charities.
The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/hMPqSb ) that the council vote was 6-2 on Wednesday.

Northwest Community Credit Union is buying the land for $1.23 million, with plans to build a corporate headquarters that would bring 150 employees to downtown Eugene. Credit union executives say they want to start building next spring. The city plans to pay an estimated $200,000 in city fees.
For the past three years, about an acre of the parcel has been used for a vegetable and fruit garden tended by University of Oregon students and community volunteers.
City development analyst Denny Braud says city staff will work with the university to try and find another site for the garden.
