Judge rejects Rick Gates’ request to leave house arrest to take kids to school

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson rejected Rick Gates’ request Thursday to occasionally leave his home for family-related matters.

Gates, who was indicted last month by special counsel Robert Mueller and is currently on house arrest, had asked permission to leave his home to take his children to school and join in his family’s Thanksgiving festivities.

“The court is well aware that a house full of busy children comes with constant and competing transportation demands and that the burden shouldered by many mothers is exacerbated in this case by the defendant’s current bond conditions,” Berman said, according to Bloomberg.

Berman suggested Gates instead arrange a deal with prosecutors.

Gates served as an associate to Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chairman. Both were indicted by a federal grand jury last month on 12 charges, including conspiracy against the U.S., for their work years ago for their lobbying work on behalf of pro-Russia politicians in Ukraine.

The indictments came as Mueller team investigates Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin.

Gates was provisionally released last month following his arraignment on an unsecured $5 million bail bond.

Manafort and Gates pleaded not guilty last Month at a federal courthouse hearing.
