2 firefighters hurt battling White Oak blaze

Two firefighters were injured battling an overnight blaze in the White Oak area.

The fire broke out at an apartment building on the 11400 block of December Way shortly before 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Montgomery County fire and rescue.

Heavy fire was showing when firefighters responded to the scene. The blaze took 45 minutes for the 85 on-scene firefighters to control, authorities said.

One firefighter suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, the fire department said. He remains hospitalized. Another firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital by Thursday morning.

People in eight units in the building have been displaced due to damage.

Authorities believe the fire started on or near a stove in an apartment.
