SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco residents have overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure giving voters a say in development projects along a 7 ½ mile stretch of the city’s waterfront.
Proposition B — which says any development proposal above current height limits should go to voters for approval — won approval from more than 59 percent of voters in Tuesday’s election.
Those height limits usually range between 40 and 105 feet.
Prop. B would apply to the whole waterfront and is likely to affect proposed projects like the San Francisco Giants’ building plans near AT&T Park in the city’s South Beach neighborhood.
Backers of the measure — including former Mayor Art Agnos — had argued that it was necessary because of increasing efforts by politically connected developers to build taller buildings on the waterfront.
