Donald Trump’s campaign chairman again defended Melania Trump following charges she plagiarized her remarks to the Republican National Convention on Monday night.
“We’re talking about 50 words out of 1,400,” Manafort told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning America” Wednesday morning. “They’re part of the speech but the speech itself talks about her immigrant status, her love of country, her love of husband. These are her stories, these are her messages.”
Following her opening night convention speech, numerous similarities emerged between Melania Trump’s speech and the speech given to the Democratic National Convention by Michelle Obama in 2008.
No one has yet been punished within the Trump campaign for the speech, and rumors have flown as to why. ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reported a family friend helped write the remarks.
Manafort denied the words were anyone’s other than Melania’s.
“As far as we’re concerned, the speech is Melania’s speech,” he told Stephanopolous. “What she communicated to the American people Monday night is a genuine message from her heart. And as far as we’re concerned, that’s the end of it.”
Night three of the Republican National Convention kicks of Wednesday. Trump was formally nominated as the GOP nominee Tuesday night.
