A former Department of Labor employee has been sentenced to three years probation for accepting money from a government contractor.
According to prosecutors, 40-year-old Shonda Brevard of Arlington accepted $4,800 every two weeks for nearly two years in exchange for approving invoices for the contractor’s company.
Brevard’s crimes were discovered after the labor department’s inspector general began a fraud investigation involving a Job Corps program government contractor. Job Coprs trains at-risk youth and has 122 centers across the country.
After search warrant was executed at the contractor’s home, the contractor told law enforcement that Brevard assisted in getting him the contracts and that he had been giving her money. He said that he paid Brevard because if he didn’t, she would not process his invoices. She admitted to accepting the money and that he also helped pay for a vehicle
