Sen. Joe Manchin announced Thursday that his official social media accounts had been hacked.
The West Virginia Democrat said the “accounts associated with his official office” — the announcement did not specify which platforms the accounts were on — have since been secured.
The announcement notes Manchin and his staff are working with state and federal law enforcement to prevent further hacking.
Manchin is in a tough re-election battle against state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, a Republican, and has been the target of criticism from Trump, who led a rally in the state last month and is set to visit again Friday. In a new poll released Thursday by MetroNews, the incumbent is leading by 5 percentage points, just outside the poll’s 4.9 percentage point margin of error.

The poll shows 45 percent of likely voters favoring Manchin, versus 40 percent for Morrisey. Libertarian Party candidate Rusty Hollen holds 11 percent of likely voters, and 5 percent remained undecided.
