Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, quashed rumors Friday that she plans to run for Chicago mayor.
“I’ve been deeply humbled and honored to see my name appear as a potential candidate for mayor of our incredible city, but I am not going to run,” she said in a statement.
Jarrett said she will continue her efforts to “advancing gender and racial equality, protecting civil rights, reforming our criminal justice system, encouraging voter registration and voting, and furthering the critical mission of the Obama Foundation to inspire and prepare the next generation to lead.”

She has no plans to return to public office at this time, she said.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s former chief of staff in the White House, announced earlier this week he would not seek re-election for a third term.
“Chicago is better and stronger for his leadership,” Obama said in a statement Tuesday.
