Senate to vote this week on Rod Rosenstein’s replacement

The Senate this week will take up the nomination of Jeffrey A. Rosen, President Trump’s selection to replace outgoing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Rosenstein stepped down last week after overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Rosen is the deputy secretary of transportation.

“I hope that each of my colleagues who review this impressive nominee will vote to confirm him this week,” Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Monday.

Democrats on the Judiciary Committee oppose Rosen’s nomination, arguing he lacks experience. Rosen was senior partner at law firm Kirkland & Ellis but has never served as a prosecutor.

A simple majority is needed to confirm Rosen. Republicans control 53 votes.
