Donna Rotunno, the attorney for Harvey Weinstein, argued that the “facts and evidence” would be in favor of her client when his case went to trial.
“I believe women who I believe the facts and evidence support their cases,” Rotunno said in a Fox News interview on Friday. “But I think it’s very dangerous to believe all women without looking at the backstory, the rest of the evidence.”
“I think that the jurors will be surprised when they hear the evidence, especially given all the media coverage,” she added. “When you work for someone, you’re in a different situation than if you have a relationship with someone. That’s different than working for them, and I think it’s also different when you want to work for someone or you want something they can offer you. So, this is not a situation, at least in the cases that I’m handling, where they were working in an office with Mr. Weinstein. These are women who had a relationship with Mr. Weinstein.”
Weinstein, 67, was charged with more sex crimes in Los Angeles earlier this week. He is currently facing trial in New York City for rape. “We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit crimes against them,” District Attorney Jackie Lacey said. “It is my hope that all victims of sexual violence find strength and healing as they move forward.”
