Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim-American soldier who died while serving in Iraq, filed an amicus brief in a California court on Wednesday in support of a federal judge’s decision to block President Trump’s temporary travel ban.
Khan’s attorneys filed the brief in San Francisco. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is currently considering the Justice Department’s appeal to U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson’s ruling on the revised ban in March.
Watson ruled in favor of a restraining order that was requested by Hawaii. Following Trump’s original executive action, Washington state had led the charge in fighting the White House. The immigration ban affected six countries in the Middle East and North Africa. It has not been implemented as it continues to wind its way through courts.
The Gold Star father became a household name last summer after speaking at the Democratic National Convention where he lambasted Trump’s treatment of Muslims, both in the U.S. and abroad.
