Towson looks forward to ?trendy? apartments

Usually hard-to-please Towson residents are welcoming an upscale apartment complex planned at York and Lambourne roads, which they hope will bring a sense of vibrancy to what?s now an asphalt field.

Developers from The Hanover Co., a Houston-based firm, presented their idea for 380 luxurious rental apartments in a four-story stucco and brick building, called the Towson Promenade, at a community input meeting Tuesday night. Residents and Towson leaders said the proposal was met ? unusually ? without many concerns.

The one-bedroom apartments are expected to rent for $1,400 per month and up, attracting what leaders hope to be young professionals.

“There?s nothing really trendy here that young people are excited about,” said Mike Ertel, president of the Greater Towson Council of Community Associations, an umbrella organization.

Because of the 5.3-acre site?s topography, the building will appear in places to be taller than four stories, said development partner Brandt Bowden. An interior parking garage will provide about 1.7 spaces per unit and will be enclosed on three sides of the building.

The apartments, he said, will boast hardwood floors, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances.
