Donald Trump would nominate tech billionaire Peter Thiel to the Supreme Court, according to a report released Thurday.
The Huffington Post reported that a source close to Thiel claims the openly gay Paypal co-founder is telling friends that the Republican nominee, who he has endorsed, will select him after winning the presidential election. A second source told the site that though he hasn’t spoken directly to Trump, the Republican presidential nominee “deeply loves Thiel” and that the candidate’s camp is discussing it.
The Republican candidate has repeatedly promised to appoint conservative judges to the court.
Both Thiel and Trump representatives have denied the rumors. Thiel, typically described as a libertarian, said during his speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland that he’s opposed to the focus on “fake culture wars” in the party’s platform.
“There is absolutely no truth to this whatsoever,” campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said of the Supreme Court rumors.
“Peter hasn’t had any conversations about a Supreme Court nomination and has no interest in the job,” said Jeremiah Hill, representing Thiel.
