The Republican National Committee announced plans to increase resources to Maryland’s Republican candidates on Thursday, on the heels of Democrat Gov. Martin O’Malley’s war chest report of $6.7 million.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Ehrlich was hoping to raise at least $3 million by the Tuesday deadline for campaign finance reporting. O’Malley released his fundraising totals early Wednesday. Ehrlich is expected to release his totals by Friday.
The RNC on Thursday committed funding to Ehrlich and other Maryland Republican candidates for staff, offices and “state-of-the-art voter contact technologies.”
The RNC did not put a price tag on the resources it is offering Maryland candidates, but said it has opened and staffed seven campaign offices in the state.
“The Maryland Republican Party has built a truly impressive party operation supporting the Republican ticket this cycle and the RNC is confident this strong partnership is on the path to victory,” said Michael Steele, RNC Chairman and former liuetenant governor under Ehrlich.
“At the state and federal level, the Democrat Party’s reckless tax increases and unrestrained spending have failed to deliver for Maryland. The RNC has stood with the Maryland Republican Party and this investment builds on their momentum by offering our Republican candidates the tools and resources to take back our state in November.”
