Chef Bryan Sullivan recently cooked his way to New York City and the James Beard House’s prestigious culinary competition by throwing a fundraiser at the Pier 5 Hotel. At the hotel’s Harbor Club, which offers a panoramic view of the Inner Harbor, Sullivan unveiled “Chesapeake Celebration,” a five-course meal featuring Maryland’s favorite seafood and local specialties, which he’ll serve in the Big Apple. It certainly was a hit with Baltimoreans, as a crowd that included Shelly and Janice Brodsky, new Baltimore transplant Susan Duchin, Marty Katz, Tiffany Zappulla, Denisa Protani, Randi Rom, and Michael Birchenall enjoyed the scrumptious cuisine.
Birds of a feather do flock together
The Ravens’ Jarret Johnson and the Orioles’ Lance Cormier didn’t know each other when they were student-athletes at the University of Alabama, but they’ve become friends since they live across the street from each other when they return home in the offseason.
Johnson, a linebacker, has cheered for Cormier, a pitcher, at Camden Yards, and Cormier has taken a keen interest in the purple and black.
“Lots of football players support the baseball team and vice versa — [Orioles closer] George Sherrill is a huge Ray Lewis fan,” Johnson said.
