Dixon gets tough on trash

Ask anyone around Baltimore?s City Hall, and they?ll tell you: Mayor Sheila Dixon likes to keep things clean ? very clean.

“People know I?m obsessed with cleanliness,” the mayor said Friday as she stood in front of trash truck in East Baltimore at news conference to declare her new Cleaner Baltimore initiative.

To combat the city?s trash problem, Dixon announced she would ask the city Department of Public Works to clean up its offices and trucks, and the appointment of a new Partners in Grime team, including “trash czar” Celeste Amato.

“We need to face the dirty facts ? we have a serious litter problem in our city,” Dixon said.

“The success of this initiative will touch every Baltimore citizen, business and visitor,” Amato said.

The mayor?s initiative also includes a Clean House Day, a citywide citizen cleanup scheduled for April 21.
