Ana Walshe disappearance: DNA of husband and missing mother found in garbage, court hears

Brian Walshe appeared in court Wednesday, one day after being charged with the murder of his wife, Ana Walshe.

Walshe’s arraignment at the Quincy District Court in Massachusetts comes as authorities allege they found Ana Walshe’s DNA in garbage found in multiple locations during a search, which led them to charge Brian Walshe.

During the arraignment, prosecutors detailed evidence against Brian Walshe, including 10 trash bags filled with items they claim were stained with blood. The bags included a hacksaw, a hatchet, Ana Walshe’s COVID-19 vaccination card, rags, towels, slippers, tape, gloves, and cleaning materials.

Prosecutors also alleged that Brian Walshe had searched on his son’s iPad “how long before a body starts to smell” and “how to stop a body from decomposing.”

Walshe entered a not guilty plea at the arraignment, with his next scheduled court appearance on Feb. 9.

Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey had previously said Tuesday the evidence has led investigators to believe he may have been responsible for her murder, with the murder charges being pressed by prosecutors on Tuesday.

“It is believed that Brian Walshe dismembered Ana Walshe and discarded her body,” said prosecutors.

Investigators say they found incriminating evidence against Brian Walshe in his basement, a trash compactor at a transfer station, and on video surveillance footage. Walshe’s internet records showed he had searched “how to dispose of a 115-pound woman,” along with information on dismemberment.

Walshe had previously been charged with misleading police about his wife’s whereabouts. Ana Walshe has been missing since Jan. 1, 2023.
