Hatch solicits emails on tax reform

Sen. Orrin Hatch, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee that has responsibility for taxes, solicited comments on tax reform from stakeholders Friday, setting up an email address to collect input from any and all.

gov will be reviewed by the committee staff, although kept confidential, his office said.

In a letter sent to groups involved in the push for tax reform, Hatch, R-Utah, wrote that “Congress is poised to make significant steps toward comprehensive tax reform.”

“It is essential that Congress has the best possible advice and insight from experts and stakeholders,” he added.

The deadline for submissions is July 17, illustrating how far the target timeline for tax reform legislation has slipped.

On coming into office, the Trump administration stated a goal of enacting tax reform before Congress’ August recess. Congressional Republicans never signed onto that ambitious timeline.

More recently, administration officials and tax leaders in Congress have said they want to reach a unified plan before moving ahead with legislation. Trump officials have said that they aim to release a detailed plan in September.
