Ben Jacobs’ broken glasses and David Fahrenthold’s notebook used in his reporting on President Trump will go on display at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., later this week, the museum said.
“On Friday, the Newseum will unveil two new artifacts in its News Corporation News History Gallery: a pair of broken eyeglasses and a legal pad scrawled with handwritten notes. These artifacts may appear unassuming, but they tell powerful stories about freedom of the press in the United States,” a press release said.
The broken eyeglasses belonged to Jacobs, a reporter for the Guardian who was body-slammed by then-congressional candidate Greg Gianforte one day before he won Montana’s special election last month. Gianforte pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and promised to donate $50,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists. He was sworn in to office on Wednesday.

The notebook belonged to Fahrenthold as he reported on Trump during the 2016 election for The Washington Post. Fahrenthold won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on the election, particularly his investigation into Trump’s history of philanthropic giving.
