Howard Schultz: Kamala Harris’ call to ban private health insurance ‘not American’

Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz mocked Sen. Kamala Harris’ proposal to eliminate private health insurance, asking whether the coffee industry would be abolished next.

“That’s not correct. That’s not American. What’s next? What industry are we going to abolish next? The coffee industry?” he told CBS’s “This Morning” on Tuesday.

Harris, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination, endorsed the elimination of private health insurance during a CNN town hall Monday. The California Democrat is also a cosigner of the Medicare for All Act authored by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

Schultz is considering whether to jump into the 2020 race as an independent. He said he fears Democrats will nominate a candidate too far to the Left who will be unable to defeat President Trump.

“The Republicans want to get rid of the Affordable Care Act. I don’t agree with that. The Affordable Care Act should stay and it should be refined. But to think we should get rid of the insurance industry … it’s far too extreme on both sides,” Schultz said.
