Liberals condemn Mumford & Sons musician after he tweets support for Andy Ngo’s book on antifa

A guitarist for the band Mumford & Sons is facing backlash over a now-deleted tweet praising journalist Andy Ngo, who has built a career reporting on antifa violence and speaking out against the group.

“Congratulations @MrAndyNgo,” Winston Marshall tweeted Saturday. “Finally had to time read your important book. You’re a brave man.”

His tweet also included a photo of Ngo’s book Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy, according to Billboard.

The tweet was swiftly hit with condemnation from fellow musicians and commenters on social media, describing Winston as a “fascist” among other derogatory names.

Ngo first grabbed the nation’s attention in 2019 when he was attacked by antifa for his coverage of the group and was left injured. Over the summer, Ngo extensively covered the riots and protests that left destruction across the country and subsequently published his new book in February.

He’s been lauded by conservatives for his work but has also reportedly faced death threats from liberal antifa supporters.

“For a number of months now, there’s just been increasing threats of violence against me, promises by antifa extremists to … kill me,” Ngo said in January during an interview with Sky News, revealing he fled to London.

The criticisms against Winston come as a growing “cancel culture” has spread in recent months, leading to the firing of conservative former Mandalorian actress Gina Carano, as well as products deemed racist being pulled from shelves, such as six Dr. Seuss books.
