Deer-through-window costs D.C. library $893

The D.C. Public Library shelled out nearly $900 to clean up the aftermath of a deer crashing through a window and into a library in Southwest Washington this week, the system’s spokesman said Friday.

George Williams said the library paid $893.44 to restore the Washington Highlands Interim Library after a deer bolted through a window shortly after noon on Tuesday. The deer broke its jaw, and animal control officers later euthanized the animal.

The library system is leasing the space while building a permanent facility on Atlantic Street, and the building’s owner will pay the cost of a new window, Williams said.

The library, which was closed at the time of the incident, reopened on Thursday.
