CHOPIN, La. (AP) — The Roy O. Martin companies are expanding the Martco plywood plant in Chopin for the third time in six years.
The Town Talk (http://townta.lk/10vXwLa ) reports that Martco is investing $20 million to upgrade drying equipment and add a production line. The expansion is expected to create 24 new jobs.
The Alexandria-based RoyOMartin-Martco Ltd. Partnership employs more than 1,000 people statewide.
The plant in Chopin currently has 686 employees. It underwent a $100 million expansion in 2007 and a $10 million expansion in 2009.
Construction is expected to start soon and be completed in the second quarter of 2014.
The state is providing a $1 million modernization tax credit, to be claimed over five years.
