The ex-wife of the man who opened fire in a Texas church over the weekend apologized for his actions and praised the armed congregant who stopped his rampage.
Angela Holloway divorced gunman Keith Kinnunen, who was shot dead after killing two at the West Freeway Church of Christ on Sunday, in 2010.
“It’s hard on all of us. Only thing I can tell them numerous times, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” Holloway told Fox 4 News on Tuesday. “We tried to encourage him. He’s popped in and out of our lives for years. He’s kept in contact with my oldest son, my two younger kids, and everybody kept telling him, ‘You need to get right. You need to do right.’”
Church elder John Robertson said security had been watching Kinnunen, 43, when he walked into the church because of his previous actions and to make sure “he was behaving at the moment.”
Security at the church, which had previously helped Kinnunen on “multiple” occasions, was planning “an intervention” moments before he pulled out his gun and opened fire, killing two church members. He was then killed by a single shot by church security officer Jack Wilson, 71, who was praised for his actions by the president on social media.
“I’m glad they stopped him when they did,” Holloway added.
Law enforcement officials have yet to determine Kinnunen’s motives.
