P.G. Council chairwoman wants taskforce to look at consolidating government services

The chairwoman of the Prince George’s County Council said she plans to propose a bill soon that would create a taskforce to find ways to consolidate government services.

Ingrid Turner, D-Bowie, said the task force would look for ways to save money with consolidations in schools and in the county government.

A similar effort was done by county officials in 1996, Turner said.

A bill creating the taskforce was supposed to be introduced Tuesday, but action was deferred so more work could be done to it, she said. A copy of that bill called for a 17-member taskforce.

Turner said she hopes to introduce it in the near future.
