Boehner joins D.C. lobbying firm

Former House Speaker John Boehner has joined a D.C. lobbying firm.

Squire Patton Boggs announced Tuesday that Boehner, R-Ohio, has been hired along with two of his former top aides.

“There are few people better equipped than Speaker Boehner to help us take things to the next level and bring our services to clients around the world,” CEO Mark Ruehlmann said in a statement.

Boehner announced his resignation about a year ago after a long struggle with conservatives who were threatening to push him out.

Two of Boehner’s top staffers had already joined the lobbying firm, which means a total of four Boehner aides will be working with him at the company.

“I left the private sector and got into public service decades ago because I wanted to help remove government barriers to economic growth and job creation, and that’s still the mission that drives me,” Boehner said in a statement. “My role with Squire Patton Boggs will give me the opportunity to engage with leaders in business and government throughout the world and help them work through the challenges they face, as part of a world-class team.”

“Longtime Boehner aides John Criscuolo and Amy Lozupone will also be joining the firm with the former speaker, joining a team at Squire Patton Boggs that includes former Boehner deputy chief of staff Dave Schnittger and policy advisor Natasha Hammond,” the company said.
