Perdue widow lists $3.25M penthouse in Ocean City

The widow of chicken magnate Frank Perdue is selling their extravagant penthouse condominium in Ocean City for $3.25 million ? a steal, she said, that includes a stealth limousine, wine room and an exquisite collection of hand-decorated ostrich eggs.

The 4,288-square-foot furnished penthouse overlooks the Atlantic from the 21st level of The Pyramid and offers four themed bedrooms, including Middle Eastern, which mimics the interior of a tent, said listing agent Angela Eliopoulos of the Global Owner team of Long and Foster. Owner Mitzi Perdue said the penthouse, once used to wine and dine business associates, has not been regularly used since her husband?s death in March 2005.

“When Frank was alive, it was used almost every day,” Perdue said. “I loved it, but it just didn?t seem responsible to keep it.”

The condo features a concealed “wine cave,” with a fireplace, waterfall and seating for 10. Fog rolls in with the touch of a console button as a “ghost” tells the story behind the wine, also included with the unit. Perdue, who chaired President George W. Bush?s campaign finance committee, said she?s willing to include her ostrich eggs, which she typically sells for thousands of dollars each.

The stealth limousine ? a $250,000 novelty van owned by the likes of Tiger Woods ? is similar to a private jet on wheels, Eliopoulos said. In a video posted on a Web site, Eliopoulos says the package is more about a lifestyle than a condo.

“I say there?s only room for one at the top,” she said.

Locally, however, resort Realtors said the unit hasn?t generated much buzz. Luxury condos along Maryland?s 10-mile Atlantic strip have been selling for millions for some time, they said.

But some conceded the price tag on the Perdue penthouse is jaw-dropping.

“I?ve been in it, and it?s a unique unit,” said Bud Church, a broker for Coldwell Banker?s Bud Church Realty and a Worcester County commissioner. “But $3 million is a unique price, too.”
